If the game in real estate is location, location, location, then Gordon Biersch's San Francisco brewpub/restaurant outpost wins hands down.
Tourists come to San Francisco to see the Golden Gate Bridge, but when you're sipping a pint on the Gordon Biersch patio and gazing at the majestic western span of the Bay Bridge as it flies practically over your head and dives into Treasure Island, it's hard to imagine a better spot. Inside, the brewpub is all hip industrial steel and concrete and exposed wooden beams. The clientele tends toward the young, beautiful and well-dressed -- both the Financial District and Multimedia Gulch are within a stone's throw -- and the scene can be a bit of a meat market when the weekend nears. Nevertheless, beer is tasty; brewer Dan Gordon specializes in German-style lagers, and does a great job both with the regular lineup (Marzen, Dunkles, Blonde Bock, Pilsner, and Golden Export) and seasonal specialty beers like Maibock and Hefeweizen. At dinnertime, the kitchen aims high, and if you've got a hankering for goat-cheese ravioli or peppered ahi tuna, you can order it. However, the food isn't as consistent as the beer, and we advise sticking with simpler fare like the pizzas, sausages, or an order of the heavenly garlic fries.
